Shoe Review: The NEW Reebok Floatride Run 2017

User Rating

Reebok Floatride Run Ultraknit

As I opened up the box and looked inside at the Reebok Floatride, I immediately thought ‘Wooh cool, these look similar to ——– (another well know brand)!’ Now the reason I mention this is because generally when I think of Reebok, I don’t normally associate the brand with being fashionable, being ‘cool’, or forward thinking like some of the other brands out there. However they have seriously stepped up their game with this shoe, and I was excited to put these on!

As I slid my feet into the Reebook Floatrides I was impressed straight away.  I have particularly wide feet and after years of abuse in shoes that didn’t fit, I’m quite particular with what shoes I will wear now. These feel awesome, the shoes have a soft sockliner built into it, its sort of hard to describe without seeing it but basically if bare feet didn’t make shoes stink so bad, I would love to wear these shoes all the time without socks! Check out the photos to see what I mean.

The shoes consist of two parts, one: a knitted upper that covers your toes, basically a sock, and two: a thin rubber heel that holds your foot into the shoe. This heel is super soft, has nice cushioning around the back of the ankle, I can’t imagine it is impossible to get a blister at all in these shoes, there is literally no sticking points.

The big test: These shoes are runners, SO i guess I better go for a run in them. Lucky I’ve just started a new workout routine that requires me to do a lot of different speeds, and distances, so I will pick up these review next week after I have done a few sprints in them, a couple of 400m-800 jogs, and a 5km run.

One Week Later:

(Sprints)

I did a number of 200m sprints on a treadmill. Surprisingly they didn’t slip at all, I had no issues what so ever which was nice, particularly because I’m always a bit paranoid  when running in different shoes since my feet are quite wide. I thought the heel might slip since the laces don’t come up very high.

(400m – 800m )

Felt quite comfortable, low impact on my feet, I didn’t feel the pavement pounding through the shoe. Nice and light, didn’t feel any foot roll as I was running around a track for these runs.

(5km)

Ok, so I’m not going to lie here. With my wide feet and my pronation when I run, I was quite worried about running this distance in a brand new pair of shoes, NOTE: I’m not a distance runner by any stretch of the imagination, even just 5km is enough for me,  I don’t run a huge amount, I like to add short sprints into my workouts and every now and then do a 5km or so. However, I had no issues with slipping, or rubbing, I did end up with a blister on both feet on the balls of my feet, but I don’t think the shoes caused this. I was running outside, up hill, over roads, through  a park, some gravel so I was worried about the ankle not being supported enough, but definitely didn’t have any issues with that either. Overall, the Reebook Floatride is a very comfortable shoe.

Overall:

I think the Reebok Floatride comes with a great fashion look and are a very comfortable shoe for the casual runner. I have a feeling that a hardcore long distance runner probably would find some faults in the shoe that they didn’t like, but I don’t think the shoe is made for them. Since I’m a personal trainer I’ve also been wearing these shoes for around 12-14 hours a day for the past week, constantly on my feet, and I haven’t had any issues with my feet feeling sore or tired which is great. The Reebok Floatride is a nice change for the brand and with its cool look and comfortable ride, its a nice change up from some of the other brands you may normally buy. You can find them exclusive at the Running Room or Reebok.ca
